Universidad de La Sabana’s Latin American Studies Program (LASP) offers undergraduate and postgraduate students from a wide range of disciplines a unique opportunity to engage academically and culturally with Latin America. Based in Chía, Colombia—just outside the capital city of Bogotá—this three-week program provides an immersive learning environment in which participants can deepen their understanding of the region’s history, politics, conflicts, and human rights challenges.

Structure of the Program

Live the Latin American experience at Universidad de La Sabana! 

Join the Latin American Studies Program (LASP) from January 18th to February 5th, 2027, and immerse yourself in the political, historical, and cultural dynamics of Latin America right in the heart of Colombia. 

Through interactive lectures, classroom discussions, cultural activities, and academic field visits, participants will examine the historical and contemporary forces that have shaped Latin America. Particular attention will be given to Colombia’s experience of armed conflict, regional human rights mechanisms, and the role of transitional justice in societies affected by violence. 

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive an official transcript from Universidad de La Sabana granting 3 Colombian academic credits, equivalent to approximately 5 ECTS.


The program comprises a total academic workload of 150 hours, distributed as follows:
• Class hours: 60
• Cultural visits and integration activities: 25
• Academic visits, including scheduled transportation time: 25
• Independent work and online preparation: 40
Total hours: 150

The accommodation is not included in the program cost. Participants are free to choose other accommodation options, but if they choose UMA Suites options, they can book it through Universidad de La Sabana and pay the additional fee.

Program Cost

  • Partner universities: 1000 USD.
  • Non-partner universities: 1250 USD.

The program includes: 

  • Tuition fee 54 hours of English-taught academic content.
  • 4 academic visits - 4 cultural activities.
  • Transportation to and from cultural and academic visits.
  • Airport shuttles.
  • Welcome and farewell lunch at Universidad de La Sabana.
  • Official Transcript of records and participation certificate.

Accommodation

Accommodation in Chía at UMA Suites (15 minutes walking distance from the University Campus). Accommodation is not included in the program fee. Students are responsible for booking and paying for their accommodation directly with UMA Suites.. 

  • Option 1: Share Room Approximately USD 600 for 15 nights, including breakfast.
  • Option 2: Single Room Approximately USD 900 for 15 nights, including breakfast.

Enrollment

Requisites: 

  • B2 English language certificate (valid certificates: TOEFL iBT 72 (overall), IELTS: 5.0 (overall), TOEIC: 400 (overall), FCE Pass or Home University Language Department certification with B2 level (CEFR). Only applicable for non-native English speakers.
  • International health insurance that covers both accidents and illnesses for the full length of stay in Colombia.

    1. Students from a country with which there is a visa exemption agreement and who are in Colombia for less than 180 days (6 months), must enter the country with a PID entry permit. This is a permit that is stamped by the immigration agent when the student arrives in Colombia and that allows to stay 90 days in the country and then must be renewed. This will be granted at the port of entry (Airport) when presenting the PID letter sent with the acceptance documents. The PID permit will allow the student to stay in Colombia for 90 days.
    2. Students who need a visa must apply for a VISITOR'S VISA. This process must be done before entering the country, the student must apply from their home country before traveling.
