Doctors Luis Fernando Giraldo, Alirio Bastidas, Santiago Pedraza and Álvaro Romero, from the School of Medicine, talk about the impact that the ventilator, developed by the University, will have on society. Know their testimonies:
“It was a race against time. It's not a matter of simply manufacturing a fast and inexpensive ventilator, but it must have protection systems so that the patient does not end up being affected by the ventilator itself. This device has all the parameters that a patient with Covid-19 needs and can be used continuously, because a patient with this virus may need the ventilator for three or four weeks. We have put all our efforts into this project and sacrificed many hours of rest, especially the engineers who are dedicated to bringing forward the best results ”, Dr. Luis Fernando Giraldo.
"After having my rural year, Dr. Luis Fernando Giraldo invited me to participate in this project [...] These weeks have been intense, we worked on protocols for ventilator tests in simulation and animal models, collection and processing of information and, above all, we achieved immense learning. Currently, research in a doctor is fundamental, which can go perfectly hand in hand with work assistance. It has been a very enriching experience. However, seeing what can have a transcendental impact on the lives of many people is something amazing", Dr. Santiago Pedraza.
