Experiential learning at Universidad de La Sabana

At Universidad de La Sabana, experiential learning has been established as a vehicle to promote practical relevance within its academic programs. Through experiential learning, students take an active role in their learning processes in order to acquire knowledge and develop the expected skills.

The experiential learning situations at Universidad de la Sabana are based on three essential elements:

  1. The focus on the person, as the axis and protagonist of his or her learning process.

  2. The experience, understood as the specific moments of teaching-learning (classes, sessions, workshops, among others), which is designed intentionally, so that the student takes an active role in the process.

  3. Reflection, necessary to be able to transform the experience into learning and ensure the significance of the process, both for the student and the teacher.

Experiential learning can be carried out through a large number of methodologies and techniques, which ensure the active participation of students in their learning processes. In this way, and in order to strengthen the formative processes of our students, while seeking to have a tangible impact on society, Universidad de La Sabana emphasizes the implementation of three main methodologies: Challenge-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning and Service Learning.

Learning experiences through these methodologies include elements that favor the development of students' essential skills, such as collaborative learning, problem solving, and effective communication, among others. Additionally, these methodologies favor an intentional relationship with the environment and, on some occasions, students have the opportunity to participate in business visits, field work with communities and others.
