Doctoral degree in Engineering

The Doctoral degree in Engineering aims to train highly trained researchers who, with their knowledge, will increase the innovation, productivity and competitiveness levels of the country.

The researches carried out as part of the program aim to integrate the knowledge of each branch of engineering, in order to make it more interdisciplinary and closely linked to the problems of society and industry.

Our society needs for engineers with a doctorate to propose new paradigms and approaches to problem-solving that lead them to consider new products and processes from a sustainable and innovative perspective.

Research

The Doctorate in Engineering of La Sabana University works under five core topics of investigation, which integrate the investigation strategic subareas defined by La Sabana University in the area of Technological Development and Basic Sciences as well as in the groups and research lines that support the Doctorate. These core topics frame current engineering challenges which will be interdisciplinary approached. The aim of each core topic is next described.

Environment & Energy

Conduct research that, through assessment and reduction of human impact on environment, and demand of energy resources, lead to: reduce pollutant emissions; implement adaptive actions towards climate changes effects; increase energy efficiency; implement alternative energies; set the grounds of a future low carbon consumption; and, in general, foster an adequate life quality for present and future generations.

Informatics, computing & electronics

Conduct research that proposes new devices, computational models, methodologies and software products specialized in those engineering research areas that require informatics, computing and electronics implementation. All these allow to offer innovative solutions crafted on hardware, software, applications and services focused on current problems and needs of the country in order to boost the digital dimension in society and economy.

Materials engineering

Conduct research when applying new technologies, design methods and tools for analysis and simulation, for developing materials with improved properties as well as more sustainable obtaining, manufacturing and transformation processes, thus increasing the materials applicability, efficiency, resistance and life reducing their environmental impact.

Product & process engineering

Each one of the research core topics of the Doctorate in Engineering is supported by the following Research Groups:
