His current research interest includes CLIL, Content based Instruction, Teacher Training and International Education. Carl E. Anderson 
Assistant Professor

Carl Edlund ANDERSON teaches in the Master’s programs for in-service English teachers at the Department of Foreign Languages & Cultures, Universidad de La Sabana (Chía, Colombia).

He holds an A.B. in Folklore & Mythology from Harvard College. Massachusetts, United, States.

Ph.D. from the Faculty of English (Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, & Celtic) at the University of Cambridge. Cambridge, UK. As well as a CELTA from the British Council in Bogotá, Colombia. Currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Latin American Journal of Content & Language Integrated Learning (LACLIL), his research interests include CLIL, rhetorical communication, intercultural studies, world/international Englishes, historical philology, and Colombian minority languages and cultures.

Liliana Cuesta Medina 
Assistant Professor

Dr. Liliana Cuesta Medina is a teacher trainer, lecturer, researcher in the Master’s programs for in-service English teachers at the Department of Foreign Languages & Cultures, Universidad de La Sabana, Chía, Colombia. Additionally, she is the academic coordinator of the Master in Language Teaching-Autonomous Learning Environments. She holds a B.A. in English and Spanish from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (Bogotá, Colombia), and a Specialization in Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of English from Universidad La Gran Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia. Liliana also studied American Literature in Lynchburg College and in Central Virginia Community College (VA, United States). She holds a PhD in English Philology from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Bogotá, Colombia. She has been involved in local and international teacher development programs. Her research interests are CALL, teacher training and learners’ self-regulation in blended/virtual learning environments, areas in which she has published various articles and delivered academic presentations.

Claudia Acero 
Assistant Professor

Claudia Acero is currently working as a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Languages and Cultures at University de La Sabana in Chía, Colombia, South America where she teaches and tutors for the Master's programs in English Language Teaching–Autonomous Learning Environments- (in site) and Self-Directed Learning (online). Her experience in education includes teaching in all language levels from elementary school to graduate programs in private and public institutions, and also the design of language courses and subjects such as Didactics for English Language Teaching, Introduction to Phonetics, Setting Up and Optimizing Language Resource Centers I, Self-access Language Learning Materials, and Introduction to Research. She co-designed and administered a Teacher Development Course for Teachers of the Secretaría de Educación de Cundinamarca, Colombia called MEN TDP. Her work experience includes the direction of the Universidad de La Sabana language program and its language resource center –Studium-, and her current academic coordination of the online graduate program. She has also acted as the research director and counselor of several graduate students´ theses and research projects. Her research interests relate to educational management, technology in language learning, development of autonomy, online learning environments and teacher reflection.

Claudia Patricia Alvarez A. 
Assistant Professor

Currently teaches in the Master's programmes for English-language teaching at the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Universidad de La Sabana (Chía, Colombia) where she has served as lecturer, E-tutor, researcher, thesis director, teacher trainer, and as coordinator of the ICELT programme, a Cambridge ESOL certificate for in-service English teachers. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics to Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Universidad Distrital, she is a certified ICELT tutor and holds a certificate in E-tutoring from the British Council in Mexico. Her research interests are virtual learning environments, teacher training, formative assessment and E-learning.

Virginia Morales 
Assistant Professor

Holds a Master’s degree in TESOL – (Teaching English as a second or foreign language) from Lancaster University in England.

Specialist degree in Applied Linguistics for the Teaching of English from Universidad La Gran Colombia. Bogotá, Colombia.

Bachelor’s in Spanish and English from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. Bogotá, Colombia.

She is a professor at Universidad de La Sabana at the graduate level. She is currently one of the ICELT tutors in the Master in English Language Teaching-Autonomous Learning Environments programme. She teaches the course ‘Reflective Teaching’ to third semester students. Her areas of research include the professional development of foreign language teachers, academic writing and the development of speaking skills.

Maria Sonia Jimenez 
Assistant Professor

Holds an MSc in Teaching English for Specific Purposes from the University of Aston in Birmingham, England.

Certified ICELT (In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching) tutor from the University of Cambridge, United States.

She is also a certified IELTS examiner. Her main interests are teachers’ professional development and research related to autonomy in language learning. She has worked at different universities in Bogotá including Universidad de La Sabana where she has been working for fourteen years. In addition, she has taken part in the Teacher Development Programme of the Ministry of Education and the British Council as part of the "Programa Nacional de Bilingüismo" scheme. She has co-designed two master programmes for English teachers at Universidad de La Sabana: the Master in English Language Teaching -Autonomous Learning Environments face-to-face programme and the Master in English Language Teaching for Self-directed Learning online programme.

Pedro Maldonado Chacón 
Assistant Professor

Pedro Maldonado Chacón has been teacher and teacher trainer for over thirty years at a number of schools and universities. He has been part of the teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures for thirteen years. He co-designed the Master in English Language Teaching – Autonomous Learning Environments program of Universidad de La Sabana and participated in the design and implementation of the Teacher Development Program (TDP) of the National Ministry of Education in the framework of the National Bilingual Program. Mr Maldonado’s main interests are focused in the search and generation of strategies for meaningful learning and personal growth through presential and online student-centered activities. He holds a BA in Education and a Master’s Degree in University teaching from Universidad de La Salle, Bogotá, Colombia, and is an ICELT (In-Service certificate in English Language Teaching) Main Tutor and Moderator, certified by the University of Cambridge - English Language Assessment.

Albedro Cadena Aguilar 
Assistant Professor

Albedro Cadena Aguilar is a professor in the face-to-face Master’s program in Autonomous Learning Environments for in-service English teachers in the Department of Languages and Cultures at the Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia. He teaches Language Learning Theories and Language and Globalization. He acts as a thesis director and reviewer in the same program and as a paper reviewer for Frontier for education: Edinwilsen press journal.

He holds a BA in Spanish and English teaching from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (Bogotá, Colombia), and an MA in Education from Universidad de La Sabana (Chía, Colombia). He is also an ICELT tutor and a certified and standardized examiner by the University of Cambridge for ESOL examinations. His research interests include discourse analysis, teacher training, assessment, and self-directed learning.

Ana María Ternent de Samper 
Assistant Professor

Ana María de Samper obtained her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia and holds two Masters Degrees in Education from the same university. She has over 30 years’ experience at all education levels, both in teaching and administrative positions. Her special interests are in teacher training, teaching and leading for understanding, technology in education, visible thinking and learning, cooperative learning and English teaching. She has been an online tutor for Havard’s Wide World courses in Spanish and a participant in special projects related to bilingualism, leadership in education, science teaching and learning, and international accreditation. She presently works as professor, consultant, and researcher with the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures at the Universidad de La Sabana, in Bogota, Colombia.

Juliana Patricia Llanes Sánchez 

Holds a Summa Cum Laude PhD in Language Pedagogy from Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest. Budapest, Egyetem.

She graduated in Modern Languages at Universidad Industrial de Santander. Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Master’s degree in modern languages applied to Communication in France.

She is a professor-researcher in the Faculty of foreign languages and cultures at Universidad de La Sabana. Her research interests relate to foreign language teaching and learning in educational settings, cultural competence development, collaborative learning as well as intercultural education and diversity.

Rosa Dene David 

Rosa has worked in a wide variety of teaching contexts and has supported students and teachers from various languages and cultural backgrounds.

She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Portland State University. Portland, United States.

Additionally, Rosa has a Bachelor of Arts in four areas: International Studies with an emphasis on Latin America, Political Science with a focus on American Law, Social Science that looks at Conflict Resolution and border issues, and Liberal Arts in International Economics. Rosa has served as an English Language Fellow for the U.S. Department of State’s English Language Programs in Mexico. Diana Durán is a professor- researcher at the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Universidad de La Sabana; where she is also the coordinator of the foreign languages area. Diana Gómez Pereira 

Dr. Diana Gómez-Pereira is a professor of foreign language education in the Department of Foreign Languages at the Universidad de La Sabana. She teaches courses on foreign language learning theories and courses for the Minor in Intercultural Studies. Diana received her Doctorate in Education in the field of Language, Literacy, and Culture from the University of Pittsburgh, in the United States and she has taught Spanish to elementary, high school, and college students in both private and public schools and universities in the United States. Her research interests include bilingualism, pedagogy, cultural responsive pedagogy, English language teaching, academic writing, and systemic functional linguistics. Prior to the nine years that Dr. Gómez-Pereira spent working in the United States, she graduated from the Languages Program at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.  In the spring of 2010, she completed a Master´s in Education (MEd) with an emphasis in Foreign Language Education from the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Unites States),  and then she joined the School of Education to teach Spanish as a Foreign Language. Dr. Gómez-Pereira has presented her work in national conferences throughout the United States and other countries. In August 2018, Dr. Gómez-Pereira joined the faculty team in the master´s program at the Universidad de la Sabana, and she is excited to contribute to this dynamic team, shaping student experiences at Universidad de la Sabana, and pushing forward new research initiatives.
