His research interests include university curriculum, formation of competences, and research in mass media audiences.

He has participated in different projects, both nationally and internationally in these fields. Additionally, he has participated as a guest speaker at both national and international events, and has published his works in a variety of academic journals. Currently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de La Sabana and Director of Media Observatory, a research group at the Faculty of Communication, where he carries out research projects as well as consultancy for a range of companies and governmental entities related with mass media.

Professor for the Public Communication department in the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de La Sabana. Professor Cordoba is recognized by Colciencias as an official assessor and Associate Researcher, and is part of the Media Observatory research group, in which she has coordinated and taken part in a range of research projects. Among her fields of interest, media content analysis and especially international topics such as digital policy participation, the transformation of societies via digital opportunities, transnational social movements and the analysis of socio-political phenomena through social media, particularly stand out.

Additionally, she is part of the International Studies Association, in its International Communications section, as well as the Colombian Network for International Relations – RedIntercol. Currently, she is an academic peer for a variety of both national and international indexed academic journals, and practices as an international analyst for different media outlets related to the Middle East and the Arab World.

Ángela Preciado

She carried out studies in Corporative Communications at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. Santiago, Chile.

She has practiced as a journalist and has worked in a range of areas including: television, organizational communication, and public and corporative relations both nationally and internationally at Caja de Compensación Familiar de Antioquia, Comfama.

She has been a professor at Universidad de Antioquia (Antioquia University), and both professor and researcher at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellin (Bolivarian Pontifical University of Medellin), where she also coordinated the Specialization in Organizational Communication Management and the Communication Management Research group. At the same institution, she created the Organizational Communication Master’s program, and published: “Comunicación Directiva” (Directive Communication) in 2007, as well as “Estilo directivo y comunicación interna en la empresa formativa Colombiana” (Directive style in internal communication at Colombian formative companies) in 2009, with Maria Fernanda Monsalve.

She currently coordinates the Corporative and Organizational Communication Research Centre  (CICCO), from the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de la Sabana (Sabana University), where she has also been professor of courses such as Internal Communication, External Communication, Measuring Instruments for Communication within Organizations, as well as Entrepreneurship in Communication. In 2013, she published the book “Usos y prácticas de communicación estratégica” (Uses and practices of strategic communication) with Haydée Guzmán and José Carlos Losada Díaz, edited by Ecoe and Universidad de la Sabana (Sabana University).

Victor Garcia Perdomo

Communication Doctorate Director

Victor Garcia Perdomo is a professor for the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de La Sabana (Sabana Univeristy) in Bogota, Colombia. Doctor of Communication and Journalism, and Master in Latin American studies from the University of Texas. Texas, United States. 

He was the recipient of a Fullbright Scholarship, and bases his academic research on the impact of digital technologies on mass media, journalism, and audiences through a socio-technological perspective. He currently teaches the course of Multimedia Convergence in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in English.

His academic articles have been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Communication, Journalism, Journalism Studies and the International Journal of Communication. He is part of the Digital Media Research Program (DMRP), at the University of Texas, and the Research Group in Journalism at Sabana Univeristy. He is the editor of the book “Manual de Generos Periodisticos” (Manual of Journalistic Genres), and co-author of the book “The Evolution of Television”.

Garcia Perdomo worked as assistant professor at the University of Texas between August 2013 and May 2016, being in charge of classes related to video production, multimedia contents for the web, and television reporting. He has worked as Director of the Journalism and Digital Communication Master’s program, head of the Journalism area, and director of the university newspaper “En Directo” (Live). Since 2013, he has been director of the Rosalynn Carter Scholarship for Journalism in Mental Health in Colombia, which is led by the Carter Center in Atlanta.

He worked as a professional journalist for fourteen years for a variety of media platforms including the Colombian newspaper “El Espectador”, Univision Online, Univision Radio and Terra TV. His professional and academic experience has allowed him to practice as a consultant for a range of mass media companies in Colombia such as “Caracol Radio” and “Telefonica”, and in Venezuela for “El Universidal” and “Cadena Crapiles”.

Diana Victoria Vargas
Specialization in Organizational Communication Management Director

Master in Human Talent Management and specialist in Human Resource Management. Universidad de Manizales. Manizalez, Colombia.

 She is also a La Sabana alumni, having studied Social Communication and Journalism.

She was a journalist for the “La Patria” newspaper, and producer of documentaries such as “La Ruta del Café” (The Coffee Route) and “Al Grano en Telecafé” (To the point on Telecafe), as well as director of the newspaper “El Caficultor”.

In terms of academia, she was professor for the MBA at Universidad Nacional de Colombia (National University of Colombia) in its Palmira and Manizales branches, and professor for the Communication Faculty at Universidad Católica de Pereira (Catholic University of Pereira). Her work was praised for having led business related practicums for students, new postgraduate programs, and institutional communication models for Universidad de Manizales (Manizales Univeristy), where she was Director of Communications and Press, as well as Director of the Specialization Program in Organizational Communication, and academic assistant for the Social Communication and Journalism Faculty.

She lived in Santiago de Chile where she carried out work as Academic and International Relations Representative for South America for Universidad de Manizales (Colombia), and worked as managing director/international consultant for the law firm “Fernando Veliz Montero: Latin American Organizational Consultancy”

She was also a full time professor at the Communication Sciences School at Universidad Sergio Arboleda (Sergio Arboleda University). Since July 5th 2018, she has been a full time professor for the Faculty of Communication and Director of the Specialization in Organizational Communication Management at Universidad de la Sabana (Sabana University).

Juan Camilo Hernández

He is currently the Director of the Social Communication and Journalism program for the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de la Sabana (Sabana University), after having been Head of the Journalism Department. He was an editor and correspondent for the American news outlet Associated Press for Colombia and Venezuela, and was a consultant in digital communication strategies for the Red Cross International Committee, Colombia.

He currently teaches postgraduate courses in Digital Writing and Documentation in Colombia, and Multimedia Project Management in Ecuador. He teaches and researches on storytelling, digital journalism and interactivity. He has undertaken studies in the consumption of television content for Futbolmania (RCN Television) and the defunct Comision Nacional de Television (National Comission for Television). He was director of the Faculty of Communication newspaper, EnDirecto, at Universidad de la Sabana. He was also coordinator of the research group Media Observatory at the same institution, where he led studies of public opinion and political culture, approved by the Concejo Nacional Electoral (National Electoral Trust).

He was recipient of the scholarship “200 years of peace, storytelling for post conflict”, from the Journalism School of El Tiempo (Colombian newspaper), journalist for Radio Santa Fe and a range of community based radio stations, and was a consultant for Tequendama Cements in corporate social responsibility strategies.

Andrés Forero Serna

Professional in Cinematographic and Television Filmmaking from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Bogotá, Colombia.

Specialized in 3D animation from the Image Campus. Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Master in Education from Universidad Libre. Bogotá, Colombia.

 He is an animator with more than fifteen years of experience in animation production in diverse formats for web, television, and film, including different animation techniques such as stop motion, 2D and 3D.

As a filmmaker, he has worked on the development of animated pieces for commercial, institutional, educational, social, and cooperative and development contents, having worked for private companies, governmental entities, United Nations agencies, and international organizations. He was co-founder of animation studies Fantascopio and 3da2 Animation Studios. He has also worked as a consultant of organization for the development of innovative and educational projects with the use of new technologies.

He has been granted several distinctions and awards for his independent audiovisual works at film and animation festivals both nationally and internationally, including the India Catalina for best Animated Short Film at the Cartagena Film Festival in 2006, and the award for best animation at the Rome Independent Film Festival in 2013.

Since 2009, he has been a professor at Sabana Univeristy in the fields of traditional, digital and multimedia animation for the Audiovisual and Multimedia Communication program. Additionally, he has been in charge of the production of two editions of the Audiovisual Festival FIAfest, and is one of the professors that coordinate the Research Incubator SIGLA.

Edward Goyeneche Gómez
Head of the Department of Audiovisual Communication

Candidate for Doctor of History at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Bogotá. Colombia.

He has a Master’s in Sociology from Universidad del Valle. Cali, Colombia.

Social Communicator and Journalist from the same institution, with emphasis on Audiovisuals and Photography (2003).

He is a professor for the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de La Sabana. He has also taught at Universidad del Valle, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and Universidad Externado de Colombia. He is part of the Audiovisual Culture research group, recognized by Colciencias. He currently teaches the following courses: Documentary Workshop, Communication Theory, and Digital Journalism.

Writer and researcher of the books “Fotografia y Sociedad” (Photography and Society), 2009, “Volver a los Clasicos” (Return to the Classics), and “Teorías de la Comunicación y Cultura Pop” (Communication Theories and Pop Culture), 2016. He was the recipient of the Postgraduate Research Scholarship, in 2015, from the Center of American Studies, CEE-Colombia, at Los Andes University and Nacional University of Colombia. His research study “Fotografia de Estudio y Sociedad” (Studio Photography and Society) was recognized as “laureate”.

He has teaching and research experience, and publications, about the problem of visual epistemology in the fields of the history and sociology of image and culture, mainly in photography and film; and in the area of visual and audiovisual communication, with specific focus on the approach of visual studies, and in research lines related to audiovisual culture, social and collective representation, visual memory and practices, and audiovisual narrative and discourse. Curator and researcher for the project entitled “Inmigrantes en el arte Colombiano 1930-1970” (Immigrants in Colombian Art 1930-1970) by FGAA and Banco de la Republica. He took part in the research and writing of the book “Nuestra Casa, Nuestras Pantallas” (Our House, Our Screens) – National Commission of Television and Universidad del Valle, 2004. He was director and photographer of the experimental documentary “Recuerdo del Cielo, una narracion fotografica” (Memories of Heaven, a photographic narration), 2003, and “Areneros” (Sandpits), 2002. One of his photographic projects was part of the Collective Photography Exhibit in France “Marsella-Marsella” in 2001. In the artistic field, he has worked on projects of historical curatorship.

He is a Social Communicator and Journalist from Universidad de La Sabana with technical formation in merchandising.

He has experience in social research of markets and public opinion, is a radio reporter and director of a regional news program in the Coffee region, contributor to the politics and economics focused magazine “La Nota” (The Note). He also has outstanding abilities related to strategic business planning in the communication field.

In the Faculty of Communication, he has worked in positions such as Director of the Social Communication and Journalism program, coordinator of self-assessment processes for the National and International Accreditation for the Social Communication and Journalism Program, Academic and Administrative Secretary, and Director of Media Observatory at Universidad de La Sabana.

He is a professor for the Public Communication Area of the Social Communication and Journalism program, and teaches the Political Communication course in the general study plan. He is an academic researcher in fields related to communication, freedom of press, the quality and reliability of mass media, and political culture. In this last field, he developed an extensive research project for his doctoral thesis about governmental communication.

Jairo Enrique Valderrama Valderrama

He has been a professor in the field of journalism for 25 years at a range of Bogota based universities such as Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Los Libertadores, Central and Sabana. During this time, he has taught a variety of courses including: News piece and chronicle editing, interviewing and reporting, selective reading, written communication, opinion genre editing, source management, critical theory, contemporary history, information analysis, amongst others.

He was the co-author of “Manual de Géneros Periodisticos” (Manual of Journalistic Genres), ECOE, 2nd Edition, and author of more than 250 articles in newspapers and cultural and scientific magazines, both nationally and internationally, as well as the book “Labra Palabra: Lecciones de Periodismo y Lenguaje” (Lessons on Journalism and Language). At public and private institutions, he has been in charge of conferences and workshops about the correct use of the Spanish language. As a result of his academic work, he has been a guest speaker at international seminars and conferences such as: Cuernavaca International (Mexico, 2005 and 2006), de la Republica (Montevideo, 2008), Bicentenary Congress for the Independence in Latin America, Georgetown University (Washington 2010), Congress of Communication at Universidad Nacional de Cordoba (Argentina, 2013), XV International Congress of Hispanic Literature (Antigua, Guatemala, 2015), V International Congress of Applied Linguistics (San Jose, Costa Rica, 2016).

He was a writer for the Bogota based newspapers “El Tiempo” and “El siglo”, as well as editor for “La Tarde” newspaper in Pereira, Colombia. Additionally, he was also a proofreader for the Colombian Institute of Technical Norms and Certifications (Icontec). He wrote the prologue for a variety of books and was co-author of “Memorias del Concejo de Bogota” (Memories of the Bogota Council), 1986-1988, edited by the Bogota Council.

Currently, he is a professor in the Journalism area, and researcher for the Journalism Research Group (GIP – Faculty of Communication), and the group “Valor y Palabra” (Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences) at Sabana Univeristy, where he is coordinator and teaches Written Communication and Opinion Writing.

José Augusto Ventín

Érick Vilaró
Professor

Audiovisual producer, Social Communicator and Journalist from Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano. Bogotá, Colombia.

He is an expert in digital narration and video storytelling.

He worked for the “El Tiempo” publishing house, for 8 years, where he was head of Video and Co-Editor of the audiovisual unit. In recent years, he has focused on developing processes of multimedia innovation, streaming, video, and differentiating factors that have granted him a variety of awards, among which the Simon Bolivar National Journalism Award for best special multimedia (2017), and the Anway Award for Environmental Journalism, stand out, among others.

He was a trainer in storytelling for post-conflict in Colombia at a workshop that was carried out hand in hand with the Swiss Embassy and “El Tiempo” newspaper, so that Colombian journalists could learn how to narrate those stories in a different and more successful way.

Social communicator with emphasis on film from Universidade Federal Fluminense. Río de Janeiro,Brazil.

Master in Educational IT from Universidad de La Sabana. Chía, Colombia.

Filmmaker, photographer and editor of a range of audiovisual pieces such as short films, video clips, adverts, news segments, and television series like the awarded “Chinkanarama”, which was broadcast on Señal Colombia. He has worked for different production companies such as Citurna, Centauro TV, ART TV, 4 direcciones, and Unimedios. He was the editor of advertisement for Señal Colombia at the Ministry of Culture, and carried out several workshops for projects such as “Imaginando Nuestra Imagen” (Imagining our Image).

He has been a professor in the audiovisual area at a range of further education institutions, and was the creator and director of the academic program “Tecnologia en Animacion y Posproduccion Audiovisual” (Technology in Animation and Audiovisual Postproduction) at Universidad Área Andina 

He was a judge for “creation” scholarships at the Culture Secretariat in Medellin, he was also an expert witness in the audiovisual area on topics related to copyright.

He has been a professor at Sabana University since 2010, being in charge of subjects such as video editing, photography and documentary making workshops. Additionally, he is an internal judge for thesis projects in the Educational IT and Educational Projects by means of ICT Master’s programs, respectively.

His latest works as Director of Photography have made an impact in a variety of Colombian festivals (Popayan, Medellin, Bogota, Barichara), as well as some internationals ones (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Ucrania).
