Professors Liliana Cuesta Medina and Carl Edlund Anderson from the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures (Universidad de La Sabana) recently published two articles in different indexed journals.

The first, “Beliefs and Practices Concerning Academic Writing among Postgraduate Language-Teaching Trainees”, was published in the Íkala journal (Scopus Q3) on the topics of academic writing and the development of argumentation in postgraduate education. The paper reports on preliminary stages of a larger study on plurilingual rhetorical communicative competences (a project registered with the DIN) in which they examined participants’ beliefs and practices concerning academic writing to identify the sources of their challenges and develop an evidential basis for identifying and testing appropriate support strategies. The second article was coauthored with Carlos Alberto Mora, an alumnus of the department’s graduate program Maestría en Didáctica del Inglés con Énfasis en Ambientes de Aprendizaje Autónomo. The article, “Graphic Organizers Support Young L2 Writers’ Argumentative Skills” was published in GIST: Educational and Learning Research Journal (Publindex B). This study analyzed the influence of graphic organizers on the development of argumentative written tasks by a group of sixth grade English learners.
